Frosted Flake Cookies

September 28, 2017

These cookies are flaky, chewy, crunchy with a caramely sweetness and are simply addicting. These are the snack you eat after a long day when you just need to indulge. They are easy to make which makes them the perfect treat to bring to a holiday party.

Frosted Flake Cookies

These cookies are delicious. Simply delicious. They are light, flaky and have a sweet caramel taste with little bits of crunchy (I am literally eating while I am writing this, I can’t get enough!) These are a great party cookie, a crowd pleaser and super easy to make.

This recipe was given to me from my aunt who got it from my grandmother. We’re guessing she probably found this recipe on the side of a frosted flakes box or in the newspaper. We reached out to Kellogg’s to see if they could provide some insight as to where the recipe came from but no word yet, I will keep you guys updated if we hear back. My aunt has been making these cookies for years and they are a favorite for several family members. She makes them perfect every time so we had a baking day so she could show me how to do it.

What you’ll need:

1 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

1 cup lightly packed brown sugar

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 1/4 cup flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

3 cups crushed frosted flakes

Frosted Flake Cookies

Let’s get started!

Start by adding the shortening, sugars, eggs, and vanilla extract into the bowl of an electric mixer and mix until smooth. Add flour, baking soda, and salt and mix until well combined.

Pour frosted flakes into a medium bowl, you will need about 6 cups uncrushed frosted flakes to make 3 cups crushed. Using your hands, crush frosted flakes until they are small bits.

Fold frosted flakes into cookie dough using a spatula until evenly combined. Using a spoon, scoop out the dough and drop medium sized mounds on a ungreased pan. In between batches, stir the dough a little to keep it evenly mixed.

Bake at 350° for 10-14 minutes or until cookies are golden brown and the top is no longer shiny. Wait a few minutes before removing from pan. When you take a bite you should see caverns in the cookie which make the chewy texture.

They are crunchy and flaky and oh so good! Get ready to eat too many of these.

These are super great cookies. With all my other sugar addictions, I have to avoid these. But you are right, definitely a party favorite.

Yes, they do have a good amount of sugar. Definitely a treat or party cookie.
