Homemade Honey Pretzels

Servings: 8 pretzels

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1 packet dry yeast or 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Coarse salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450° 
  • Mix water, salt, honey into the bowl of a standing mixer with a dough hook attachment. 
  • Add the yeast and let rest for 5 minutes. 
  • On medium speed, mix in flour a little at a time until dough comes together. 
  • Cover and place in a warm place for an hour. 
  • Once the dough has sat for an hour, remove and place on a floured board. 
  • Cut into eight even pieces. 
  • Using your hands, roll and stretch dough to create thin ropes. 
  • Fold into a classic pretzel shape or cut ropes into bite-sized pieces. 
  • Bring a medium saucepan of water and baking soda to a boil. Always add the baking soda to the water before it starts to boil. 
  • Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds. 
  • Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a baking mat. 
  • Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt. 
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. 
  • Remove from the oven and sprinkle with a little more salt. 
  • Serve with mustard or honey mustard.
